Kimberly Monday - 944 San Diego "Woman of Power"

Kimberly Monday, Founder and President of Monday & Associates

To say that Kimberly Monday is successful is an understatement - girlfriend's got mad marketing skills. Monday has consulted for more than 200 businesses and her 15-year experience includes working as senior vice president and president for various businesses between London and the U.S. before she went on to found the Monday Group, Inc. in 2000 and Monday & Associates earlier this year. The firm focuses on public relations, creative design and marketing for industries ranging from real estate to hospitality to entertainment.

Monday is also very passionate about giving back to the community. She is a national speaker for numerous marketing and branding presentations and sits on the board for Children Uniting Nations, a foster child mentoring nonprofit organization. Monday also supports an orphanage in Mexico, where she goes numerous times a year to donate supplies such as clothes, shoes, and toys.

Yet, Monday is far more than a successful entrepreneur and a rare marketing visionary; she is a woman of the highest standards, integrity, and contagious positive attitude - and 944's hands-down pick for this month's "Woman of Power" honor.

944: What are some of the challenges of being a woman in your field?
KIMBERLY MONDAY: I certainly don't think of myself as being disadvantaged because I'm a woman. I work hard and believe I have been treated fairly. I have always tried to think of it as working hard and proving myself.

What inspires you?
One of my sources of inspiration is a quote from Douglas Adams: "I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by."

What is the biggest obstacle you've had to overcome?
My biggest personal obstacle was realizing that my health always comes first before anything. I was so busy working that I forgot about me and ended up in the hospital undergoing a major surgery. Making time to get away makes you a better and sharper business owner.

If you didn't pursue your current career, what would you be doing?
Writing books - although my job is my inspiration for the book I'm writing, so I guess I can't imagine doing anything else, I love what I do!

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
My plan is to be traveling across the country promoting my books and leading public relations seminars that provide companies with the top PR secrets that create financial success. I will also venture out more into the world of helping nonprofits.
Do you have any advice for women who are aspiring to be an entrepreneur?
Being in business is a lot like life: It's a roller coaster and when you get to the top you go back down again. You're always going to be doing problem solving, so be prepared for the downs as well as the ups. Feel the fear and work through it.
